We all need staple items in our wardrobes. Some items are worth investing in for the long run but as a student, it's not exactly worth buying a £200 coat when there are other things that £200 could pay for. So I have rounded up my favourite and slightly more budget basics.
The first one is an absolute wardrobe staple and if you don't already have one then WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN BUYING.

The Plain White T-Shirt
Mango
£6.99
Product Code - 53083725
The second one is jeans. Jeans are a nightmare to shop for especially because there are what feels like millions of styles and so many different brands to choose from. If you have already found your perfect pair then woohoo!!! You're one of the lucky few. However if not, don't panic these jeans are a good place to start.

The Jeans
Topshop
£40
Product Code - 02M04QMDT
Next up is a faux leather jacket. This is budget basics after all.

The Faux Leather Jacket
H&M
£34.99
Product Code - 0751557002
A work blouse. Probably not what we like to see but it's definitely an essential especially if you do work or have job interviews coming up. They also work really well for any formal occasions you might have lined up.

The Work Blouse
Dorothy Perkins
£22
Product Code - 05206720
The fifth is a pair of black trousers. Everyone needs a pair of plain black trousers. I personally love a pair of wide leg trousers. I find them super flattering and a bit different from the tailored cigarette style trouser that a lot of women wear. But if you find that that style is comfortable for you then think of these as maybe something different to try.

The Black Trouser
H&M
£17.99
Product Code - 0752512006
An obvious but sometimes missed out, a denim jacket. Whether it's a black or blue denim jacket everyone needs one of these. They go with everything including jeans, if you're brave enough to rock the 80s trend.

The Denim Jacket
Topshop
£45
Product Code - 05J98QWBK
A multi-functional dress. One that is able to be smart enough for a day job but also works for brunch with the girls. The Zara dress that has been seen everywhere is perfect for this. Style with black heels and a smart jacket for work and then the leather jacket and a pair of white trainers for brunch.

The Multi-Functional Dress
Zara
£39.99
Product Code - 4886/058
Eighth up is the knitted jumper. The material of this one is not like your classic knitted jumper, the wool in this one is softer and definitely less itchy. Which in my wardrobe makes the jumper a win-win.

The Knitted Jumper
boohoo
£22
Chenille Jumper
A multi-functional pair of trousers might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of basics, but having even one pair of trousers that are not black have a similar function to the dress. A pair of trousers that can work from day to night are just as good as a dress that can work from day to night and if you can get a pair in a colour or pattern that's even better.

The Multi-Functional Trousers
ASOS
£35
Product Code - 1489443
A Turtleneck is perfect for layering in autumn and winter.

A leather skirt. Part of a night out outfit sorted. The other parts are in this blog.

The Leather Skirt
Dorothy Perkins

A little black dress. Enough said.

The Little Black Dress
ASOS

Okay, so trench coats are staples in everyone's wardrobe. However they quite expensive but it is worth it because the right coat can make you look so put together and classy. Trench coats are probably not the kind of coat you take on a night out but it is the kind of coat you can wear on a first date.

The Coat
New Look
£49.99
Product Code - 630830116
The penultimate item on this list is a pair of black boots. Black boots are the most versatile shoe you could own. They go with pretty much everything and you can literally wear them anywhere. Work, festivals, first date, concert, brunch. You name it, you can probably wear them there.

The Black Boots
Urban Outfitters
£45
Product Code - 0312471906699
The last item on my list of budget basics is a holdall tote bag. It is slightly random but a smart leather tote bag is sometimes just an easy bag to have when you have to carry everything. Also if you need to swap bags for any reason you just throw it in the bag and you're good to go.

The Hold All Tote Bag
Oasis
£26
Product Code - 69909
So, there you go. 15 budget basics from good quality brands. If you have half of these basics in your wardrobe to start with then you're already part of the way there to lifting the potential of your wardrobe.
