The Emmys 2019: Outfits of the Night

Monday nights Emmy Awards were incredible. There was so much representation from women, black people and Asian people throughout the night, it was amazing. There was also gorgeous outfits and amazing styling galore.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge was the clear winner of the night although that might be me being biased because she is British. She won in three of the main categories; lead actress in a comedy series, outstanding comedy series and writing for a comedy. Fleabag also won in the comedy directing category. I luuuuurve Fleabag so I highly recommend watching it. Also season two features Andrew Scott (Moriarty in BBC Sherlock) as the hot priest.

Obviously going into the Emmy's there was doubt about Game of Thrones because of THAT last season which is probably why they didn't win as many awards as they thought they would. They won 2 awards out of the 8 categories they were nominated in, often with multiple nominees as well.

Women were also represented a lot more in each category, obviously there's room for a lot more improvement but small steps are better than no steps. There were two women nominated in the Directing for a Drama category, which isn't a lot but there was one woman (Kari Skogland) nominated last year. This is an improvement and fingers crossed there'll be more recognition next year. There were also two women nominated in the Directing for a Limited Series or Movie, Jessica Yu and Ava DuVernay, which is amazing as there were no women nominated for this award last year.
Before I show you some of my favourite outfits of the night, as I was watching I noticed some definite trends. Pink & red, white and ice blue were very popular choices for the actresses last night. This might mean that we see more of these colours later on in awards season.

I LOVE THIS. It's gorgeous. The ice blue colour looks stunning on Regina King and the style of it is so flattering. She looks amazing. The one thing that annoys me about this is I can see the loose threads on the hem and on the train you can see where the dress has frayed. The fabric does look like chiffon which is notoriously difficult to work with as it's quite flimsy and she's also wearing heels. Heels + long chiffon gown = snags. But overall I love it.

This is stunning. I love how the red and pink compliment each other through the style of the dress. The main body of the dress is red with pink woven into the train and the whole sleeve. I love it, it could look terrible but I think it works amazingly.

YASSSSSSSSSS!! THE HAT. THE PLATFORMS. I. LOVE. IT. No but seriously though this is amazing. I am a sucker for a good suit and honestly this so cool. It's a classic pinstriped suit but the silver makes it shine like the person wearing it. The only thing that i'm not sure about is the scarf but to be honest Billy Porter works this so well it doesn't bother me at all.

What a queen. She looks like a greek goddess. Stunning. Also i'm obsessed with the big cape sleeves in the contrasting red. I like that this one is more these are two separate colours and they're both going to shine in this dress.

Ngl, I just love how he managed to match the background.

Okay but this is amazing. Green is such an interesting choice but it works. I think the shape of the top is really sweet, it's like a bubble. It also looks fun. A lot of dresses at award shows are either classy/glamorous or quite sexy but this is fun. And I quite like fun.

This, compared to some of the drag looks, is quite tame. But it's a great suit. The skinny style trousers with a slight flare are pretty cool and the pattern of the suit is awesome. The soft baby pink with a black floral print is extremely contrasting but it makes the pattern stand out amazingly well.

Sleek, simple and classy. Sandra Oh looks so good. The baby pink looks amazing on her. Literally gorgeous. Sometimes simple is best.

This is adorable. The bow tie and the little flower corsage. The dusky pink. The look has got this vintage vibe going for it and with the quiff as well. It's so sweet, I can't deal with it.

The cut outs on this dress are so well placed. It could've looked frumpy, if they'd just left it without the cutouts. But the cut outs make it look so much better. I like it, it's quite unusual to have a long sleeved halter combo that doesn't look bad. Go Tom Ford.
Hopefully, I have given you some colour combination help for your wardrobe or even some ideas to think about the next time you go shopping.
